Maps were what we started with, and maps are probably what we're best known for. Way back in 1993 our friend Elizabeth Robertson, who had a craft shop on the Island of Tiree, encouraged us to produce a cross-stitch map of the island and we duly did. We were very pleased with the result, and in the following year went on to produce our first county kit, Angus (our home county). Next was Kincardineshire and from there on things snowballed. We now have most of the old counties, 10 islands and a couple of cities. We've also done a map of Scotland. Very nearly 34 inches high when stitched (Shetland's in the right place, not a box in the middle of the North Sea!), it's been very much a labour of love and we're very proud of it.
AUTHENTICITY We pride ourselves on the accuracy and authenticity of our maps. All are extensively and carefully researched - before producing a new kit, for example, we always visit the area concerned, have a good look round, and take lots of photos of the buildings that may or may not (usually depending on whether there's enough room) find their way onto our map. We don't only, of course, show buildings; all our maps include landscape features such as rivers, lochs, mountains, sandy beaches, woods and forests, as well as place names and, in the case of counties, the county crest. Where appropriate, moreover, you'll find ferries, fishing boats, puffers, and yachts as well as the occasional oil rig. QUALITY All our map kits come with a generously-cut piece of genuine Zweigart 27-count cotton Linda material, Anchor embroidery threads (floss) ready sorted on organisers and identified by both a name and the manufacturer's number, a gold-plated needle, and even a piece of material on which to practise. Nor are you likely to be disappointed with our paperwork - we've often been told that our charts and instructions are among the best in business. In addition to the main charts we also include supplementary charts showing enlarged details of the buildings, etc., and many of our kits and chartpacks contain brief historical notes about the buildings illustrated. All
the maps we currently do are shown in the column on the left - just
click on a name to get there! Pease note that we are now supplying our map kits with Antique White material. This is lighter in colour than the Ivory material that we used to supply. If you would prefer Ivory material, e.g. to match up with another map you may have stitched in the past, please let us know. |
